Complete Grilling Cookbook

Each year, since moving to South Carolina, Susie and I have tried to find new ways of preparing Thanksgiving dinner. The first year we tried a strange turkey cutlet thing from Whole Foods. It was a flop. Last year we roasted a turkey breast. It was good, but a bit boring. For 2008, Susie found an interesting recipe in my copy of the Complete Grilling Cookbook from Kingsford. Thanksgiving is a true American holiday and what’s more American than grilling? Made for each other.

The recipe called for the turkey to soak overnight in an apple cider brine. The cook time was pretty standard for a frozen turkey, about 3 hours. We even tried wood chips for the first time. Susie was quite pleased with the smokey flavor, although neither my brother nor I really noticed it.

Aside from a slight mishap preparing the brine our holiday grilling experience went off without a hitch.
