I look back fondly on the time I spent as a DJ during my college years. Those two hour shows were some of the best times I’ve had; hanging out with a good friend and playing music from literally walls of albums. Sure, no one really listened (student radio didn’t have an actual broadcast frequency, we were piped over the school’s “calendar of events” TV channel), but it was great fun regardless. One of my secret “All-time Top 5″ jobs would have to be DJ for an “alternative/indie” radio station. Something like KEXP or WOXY.

So, I was pleased to hear that my sister is thinking about joining up with the very same student radio. She called me the other day to ask some questions about membership and having a show. It set me reminiscing.

In fact, she is probably sitting in an auditorium somewhere right now. Carry on the tradition, dear sister. Rock over London, Rock on Chicago.

It has been brought to my attention that the High School reunion for the class of 1997 has been set. 6 October is the auspicious day.

I’ve mentioned this particular anniversary before. Frankly, I’m surprised that there is going to be a reunion party at all; It seems like the type of thing that would have happened earlier in the year. Is there a reunion time of the year?

In the years since I graduated from high school, I’ve thought about whether or not I would attend a reunion. The answer has always come up, “No.” I stay in pretty regular contact with the friends I had in school (though not nearly as well as I should) and I despise chatting and small talk (mainly because I am so uncomfortable and bad at it). On the other hand, I do have some morbid curiosity about former classmates. Sort of like a highway accident, I know I shouldn’t rubberneck, yet I cannot turn away. But that’s normal. Right?
