Hale Haven Peach Dwarf Tree

Now that it is officially summer, most plant stands have discounted their inventory. We stopped by one such stand this past weekend. Susie was able to get a nice hanging basket of flowers for 15% off. And we bought a good looking peach tree for $6.

Susie and I had been talking about getting a couple of more trees for the yard and she expressed a desire to buy something that would bear fruit. The tree we found isn’t very impressive to look at, at the moment. It’s about 3 or 4 feet tall with good, healthy-looking leaves, but it’s still pretty much a stick. Reminding me of the Charlie Brown Christmas tree. According to the “tree guide” this peach tree is a fast growing variety with high fruit yield. Yay!

I noticed the tree on the lot, and Susie believes that it “spoke” to me. I have to admit that I was pretty excited to find such a nice specimen for so cheap. And I love the idea of being able to grow our own fruit in a few years time. Susie has a vegetable garden, but I find veggies to be, in the only language suitable, gross. Fruit on the other hand. That is mighty delicious.

You can read more about Hale Haven peach trees here. And I’ll sit back and hope that this little guy can pop out just one, perfect peach before year’s end.

Bunny Hutch

Our new bunny hutch. One that I did not build. It was a gift from our neighbors, T. and M. They built it and it had been sitting unused for some time. T. said he was about to trash it! Glad that we could give it a good home.

The neighbors have been very nice and helpful. From the hutch to lending tools to watching our cat when we are away, neighbors have stepped in for us on a number of occasions. In order to even begin to thank everyone, Susie thought that we should host a cookout. We’re still in the figuring-it-out stage, but I’m quite excited. It feels good to have a plan to show our appreciation.
