I had some surprising news yesterday at work. C., the CEO of the agency, stopped me and handed over an envelope. “It’s a merit bonus,” he explained. And a not inconsequential one at that! I was quite pleased with myself, basking in the knowledge that the work I did “merited” a bonus.

Now the “Good News/Bad News” part of the story. The Good News: I received a check for a decent chunk of change. The Bad News: Various government entities have taken nearly two-fifths of it before the check reached my hands. That really burns my toast.

Also.

Susie and I will be heading home to Ohio this weekend. We’ll leave early Friday (around 6am) for the nine-hour drive. Susie’s son is graduating from High School on Saturday and her daughter’s birthday is on Monday. Couple that with my birthday later in the week and we have a real party! Neither of us has been home since we moved so this is a real treat.

I expect to return very well-fed and possibly water-logged (curse the weather forecast).

I graduated High School ten years ago, this week. Nothing much else to add. Just an observation.

High School, man.
